Miners' Boots

Miners' Boots

Svalbard is a fascinating archipelago of islands roughly halfway between mainland Norway and the North Pole, deep inside the Arctic Circle. It is a land of midnight sun and polar night. Originally a base for whaling, coal mining has been the dominant industry since the beginning of the 20th century, though now some of the mines are abandoned. I found these dusty boots in one of them.
