Most notably, Professor Palmer discovered the world’s largest breaking waves in the stratosphere and pioneered the development of probabilistic ensemble prediction techniques for weather and climate forecasting. In recent years Dr. Palmer has become active in the field of quantum foundations.

He was appointed as CBE for services to science and has won the top awards of organizations such as the American Meteorological Society, the Institute of Physics and the Royal Astronomical Society. He is an international member of several renowned global academies, including the US National Academy of Sciences.
