The Very Reverend John Witcombe
John Witcombe serves as Dean of Coventry Cathedral, leading its ministry both locally and internationally. After reading law at Cambridge, John spent an intern year in Manhattan before training for ordination in Nottingham and completing a curacy in the ex-mining parish of Birtley, County Durham.
He later led churches in Nottingham, Sheffield and West London before becoming Dean of St. John’s College, Nottingham, where he taught Practical Theology and led the residential community. He subsequently moved to Gloucester Cathedral as Director of Ministry before taking up his current role at Coventry Cathedral in January 2013.
Known for his dedication to reconciliation and peace, John’s work reflects the Cathedral’s unique urban and spiritual legacy. Outside his ministry, he enjoys walking in the hills, the arts and the Greenbelt Festival’s blend of faith, justice and creativity.
