Academy Of St Martin In The Fields
The Academy of St Martin in the Fields is one of the world’s most celebrated chamber orchestras, renowned for its polished, refined sound and pioneering spirit. Founded in London in 1958 by Sir Neville Marriner, the ensemble quickly rose to international acclaim through its distinctive approach to orchestral performance—melding the intimacy of chamber music with the power and precision of a symphony orchestra. Known for its versatility, the Academy’s repertoire spans Baroque to contemporary works, and its landmark recording of The Four Seasons remains among the best-selling classical albums of all time. Today, under the direction of Music Director Joshua Bell, the orchestra continues to inspire global audiences with innovative programming, exceptional musicianship and collaborations with leading soloists and composers.
The orchestra’s name was inspired by St Martin-in-the-Fields Church in Trafalgar Square, London, where it gave its first performance. Today, it continues to embody a spirit of collaboration and cultural connection that aligns closely with Viking’s philosophy of The Thinking Person’s Travel Experience™.
